The Process of Illustration- for the Cherry Tree Story

I finished this project long ago and never posted it! So continued from the previous thumbnail post.... I drew up this image and revised it a few times after requests from the author, here is #1,

below is #2,
then I did a value study to figure out the lighting and 2 color studies in Adobe Photoshop.

The client wanted the colors in the #1 study to be more vibrant and she asked me to work on the rabbits expression so I created color study #2 below!

Once the client was happy with the rabbit, colors and vibrancy of the scene I was ready to start the final on watercolor paper. I blew up my drawing to size, traced it on the 300lb paper with pencil on my light table.

After lots of hours of painting  in watercolors I finished! Here it is! Best of all my author client loved it :)

 here it is tiny

Color of Woman Painting Workshop

"Finding Strength in Mother Nature" finished painting above and before in the process of adding layers below.

I really enjoyed spending a few days painting with acrylics on canvas! This painting was created through following a "Color of Woman "online class. Its about intentional creativity, a process of painting that offers you a healing experience. My Mom, Cindy Taylor Clark is a very talented artist and she has been studying these techniques for over a year now and is teaching her own workshops now in Maine. These classes are designed so people with no painting experience and professional artists can enjoy and benefit from the workshop experience.

Below is her painting "Dreaming the Muse" and more info on her upcoming class Feb 15, 2014  check out her website for current classes and goodies being offered  here ....http://www.angelightenterprises.com/

Character design of Pearl

I was asked to draw this doggy, Pearl for personal use, by an Author, Nita Nettleton. She has written a few Novels set in Alaska.

"About the Author-"
"The author of the Jane Doe/Berry Wood series, the author "grew up in Anchorage, raised by dogs in southcentral Alaska who shared berry patches and made sure I paid attention outdoors." She has lived in Denali, Talkeetna, Big Lake, Skagway, and Juneau. She worked in tourism, slung hash, and weighed trucks, and though now mostly retired, she occasionally leaps back into the traces: she worked for the National Park Service in summer 2006 at the Portage Glacier near Girdwood. She caught the writing bug and wrote her first novel, The Wake-Up Call of the Wild, and kept on writing. "
 -  the editorial review from Amazon.com

She is about to be published again in a new novel and this dog, named Pearl is her favorite character. I enjoyed reading a few chapters of the book to get the feel of Pearl's character and it was fun. I'm hooked but have to wait to finish it after its published!

I was so glad when Nita saw her drawing and said "I love her ears!  It looks like Pearl to me!"

The title is Anstice which means Rebirth. Leyla has a mysterious life changing adventure in another world where she can speak with animals and develops magical powers.
Here is a sneak peek  of some of my ideas. The Author likes #3 so I will work on developing that sketch, stay tuned!
This image below is one of my favorites that I played with value and color schemes.
